Telling stories, inspiring readers, and empowering individuals to take action is what Marisol Barrios Perez, MSPA, APR is committed to doing for nonprofits. Marisol has 25 years of successful experience in communications, public relations, and the nonprofit sector. Marisol generates strategic planning, public relations and social media efforts, appealing to target audiences by implementing GRACE, a five-step process in public relations to transform missions. Marisol has appeared on several Spanish television talk shows, landed several articles in major metropolitan newspapers like New York Times, The Los Angeles Times as well as broadcast media features, and has received 10 PR awards.

As the former senior director of communications and marketing for Hillsides, a premier provider of behavioral health care in Pasadena, Marisol led the nonprofit’s communications efforts through its rebranding, centennial celebration, numerous capital campaigns, and merger. Marisol’s responsibilities included strategic planning, execution, and management of external and internal communications, including crisis communications, risk management, and marketing communications.

She is an adjunct lecturer at the California State University, Dominguez Hills teaching communications courses. She serves as the President-Elect of Public Relations Society of America – Los Angeles Chapter and on the board of Bloom Again Foundation. She is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
